A big Mahalo to Pu‘u O Hoku Ranch for their commitment to using sustainable, locally produced biodiesel!  The owner of the ranch decided to switch over to biodiesel over 5 years ago because she felt it was one more thing they could do to be green and sustainable.  Currently they use biodiesel in anything and everything they can, including backhoes, tractors, bulldozers and trucks.

Pu‘u O Hoku Ranch is a tropical retreat located on the remote eastern tip of Molokai.  Besides hosting retreats, Pu‘u O Hoku is a working organic ranch, dedicated to growing HOFA certified organic papayas, bananas, awa and vegetables, as well as organic, grass fed, pasture raised beef.  The lands are managed for sustainability and conservation; no chemicals have been used for over 20 years.  Because biodiesel has lower exhaust emissions and toxicity than petroleum diesel and is also biodegradable, using biodiesel is completely in line with their mission to minimize their environmental impact as much as possible.

Other ways the ranch operates sustainably include using recycled products, CFL lighting and biodegradable soaps in their lodge and cottages, and all of the farm fields and pasture lands are slowly being converted to Bio-Dynamic practices.
