Inaugural ACORE Transportation Industry Review Brings RE Leaders Together to Discuss the Fuels and Power of the Future
Review covers electric vehicles, the Renewable Fuel Standard, biofuels, and domestic transportation infrastructure
Washington, DC, July 24, 2013 – This morning, the American Council On Renewable Energy (ACORE) – through its Transportation Initiative – released the inaugural Transportation Industry Review. The Review is a digest of member-submitted journal articles laying out the challenges and corresponding opportunities that businesses and industry groups face in advancing and enlarging the market for renewable energy in the transportation sector.
“The transition from a fossil fuels-dominated transportation infrastructure to one driven by greater efficiencies and renewable energy will build a stronger economy, a more secure nation, and a more viable job market, all while promoting a more sustainable global environment. We’re pleased that so many of our members are helping us move the transition and the conversation forward by contributing to this Review,” ACORE President & CEO VADM Dennis McGinn stated.
Articles in the Review cover a wide range of topics, including electric vehicle policy and deployment; increasing biofuels production; electrification in heavy transportation; energy efficiency and current fuel economy standards; and many more. A total of eight different issues from prominent authors/organizations in the transportation and renewable energy sectors are addressed.
“The Transportation Review provides interesting insight into the benefits and challenges of a range of clean transportation alternatives, touching on biofuels, electricity, and savings through greater efficiencies. In fact, many of the options presented are already or soon to be available in commercial applications,” explained Dawn Fenton, Volvo Group North America Director of Government Relations & Public Affairs and co-chair of ACORE’s Transportation Initiative. “In each case, political and economic obstacles have brought challenges and delays, yet it is safe to say that all of these technology and fuel solutions are making positive contributions to the future of our transportation industry.”
ACORE’s Transportation Initiative brings together leaders within the transportation and renewable energy industries from across all modes of transportation and sources of energy with the goal of creating a 21st century, multi-modal transportation system sourced by renewable energy and fuels.
“The world has to transition away from fossil fuel and toward renewable fuel; there’s no other reasonable option,” said Doug Berven, POET Vice President of Corporate Affairs and member of the ACORE Board of Directors. “We are already well on our way. In less than ten years – since 2005 – America has increased renewable fuel use from practically zero to 10% annually, and the trend is not slowing. Renewable energy producers can produce the fuel needed to reach our goals, and with a continued commitment to domestic, sustainable fuel, we will reach them on time and on budget.”
